Dr. Marchand and colleagues publish a neuroimaging study study that identifies brain circuitry associated with self-harm in major depression.
In a recently published neuroimaging study, Dr. Marchand’s research group identified abnormalities of functional connectivity in the brains of individuals with bipolar II disorder.

William R. Marchand, MD is a board-certified academic psychiatrist. He is currently a Clinical Associate Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Utah School of Medicine and a psychiatrist at the George E. Wahlen Veterans Affairs Medical Center, both in Salt Lake City, Utah. He is the author of Depression and Bipolar Disorder: Your Guide to Recovery, the forthcoming Solving the Bipolar Puzzle: Discover How Mindfulness Is the Powerful Missing Piece in Managing Your Bipolar Disorder Symptoms as well as many scientific publications. In addition to writing and teaching mindfulness, Dr. Marchand is involved in research, the clinical treatment of psychiatric disorders and medical education.
Dr. Marchand’s research has focused on using functional brain imaging to study the neurobiology of depression, bipolar disorder and suicide as well as increase our understanding of normal brain function. His clinical work is aimed at helping those with major depression, bipolar disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder and anxiety disorders.
