MINDFULNESS MEDITATION CHALLENGE DAY 10-
WHAT IS MINDFULNESS?

Mindfulness…

We’re told to live it, love it, and learn how to practice it. But what is it?

Is it a way of thinking? Is it a feeling? Is it some kind of meditation?

Is it even important?

The concept of mindfulness is really quite simple. Mindfulness is the now. It is today and not tomorrow. It is the present and not the future.

And above all, it is the awareness of exactly what is going on in this moment in time.

The truth is that too many moments come and go-unembraced.

We naturally get wrapped up in what was or what will be. Our minds wander, wander, and wander…

The problem is that when our minds wander, we completely miss out on the gift of NOW.

This is where mindfulness comes into play.

There is a beauty in the moment-a beauty that can only be found through mindful awareness.

If you think about it, the now is really all we have. The past is gone and the future is not yet a reality.

True joy comes from noticing and being grateful for each and every breath in this very moment in time. It comes by being fully present with our lives. It is accepting the moment as it is and then moving on to the next.

Practicing mindfulness is really quite simple. It is the art of being where we are-right here, right now.

As I close this post, I want you to think about this…

And in the end, it’s not the years in your life that count. It’s the life in your years. ~Abraham Lincoln

Today’s Meditation Exercise

Today, I want to challenge you to do something a little different. I want you to literally practice being mindful.

Any activity that we do with mindful awareness can be a meditation in itself. That’s because we can embrace absolutely anything that we do in life.

Brushing our teeth, taking out the garbage, and doing dishes may not be our favorite activities, but we can try doing them with full awareness of the moment.

Today, instead of doing a 10 minute seated meditation, I want you to try practicing mindful awareness for 10 minutes. And when you are done, try journaling about how this felt.

Here are some things to consider. Was it hard to stay focused for 10 minutes without your mind wandering? When your mind wandered, what did it wander to? And how did you bring your awareness back to the present moment?

Congratulations on completing day 10 of this mindfulness meditation challenge.
You did it!!!
